Ride the Lighting was Metallica's second studio album, released in 1984. It provided the world with the killer classic, 'Fade to Black,' demonstrating a true artistic evolution from their first record. The name of the album and the iconic cover of an electric chair were inspired by Stephen King's 'The Stand,' in which a character refers to the chair as "riding the lightning."
